Sunday School 8

Greeting: Greet each child as they come in the door. Make sure they have nametags, and the parent ahs signed them on the sheet.

Opening:   Sign of the Cross, Our Father Prayer.

Development:ART (Ask children what they see, there are no wrong answers)

Scripture: The bible tells us that Jesus had a special love for children. When Jesus grew up he often talked to crowds of people about God’s love for them. The people often brought their children along. Jesus welcomed the children with a smile, spoke to them, and showed his love for children by laying his hands on their heads and blessing them. (Cf. Mt 19:13-15)

Saint: Jerome was one of the most popular Saints represented in art.  Many images have him on his knees in the desert praying. He is also famous for his healing touch that he gave to a lion.  As he saw the lion roaring in pain he so believed in the lord that he advanced on the lion. He grabbed the lion by the paw and removed the thorn from his paw. , And he secured a lasting friend and admirer. Perhaps they found they had much in common? St. Jerome tamed the lion, and the love of God tamed St. Jerome.

Story: Jesus and the little children (Catholic Picture Bible 165)

Activity:  Textured collage bring different textures soft, sandpaper, satin, net, bottle caps, sand, cotton balls, buttons, ribbons, yarn, paper clips, and rubber bands.

Before you begin the craft make sure you have all the newspapers spread out to limit the mess, and have the T-shirts is line ready before the children are near the shirts.

If I Had A Hammer

Words and music by L. Hays and P. Seeger

If I had a hammer

I’d hammer in the morning

I’d hammer in the evening … all over this land,

I’d hammer out danger

I’d hammer out a warning

I’d hammer out love between all of my brothers and my sisters

All over this land.

If I had a bell

I’d ring it in the morning

I’d ring it in the evening … all over this land,

I’d ring out danger

I’d ring out a warning

I’d ring out love between all of my brothers and my sisters

All over this land.

If I had a song

I’d sing it in the morning

I’d sing it in the evening … all over this world,

I’d sing out danger

I’d sing out a warning

I’d sing out love between all of my brothers and my sisters

All over this land.

If I’ve got a hammer

And I’ve got a bell

And I’ve got a song to sing … all over this land,

It’s a hammer of justice

It’s a bell of freedom

It’s a song about love between all of my brothers and my sisters

All over this land.

Its a Small World

Written by: Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman

It’s a world of laughter

A world of tears

It’s a world of hopes

And a world of fears

There’s so much that we share

That it’s time we’re aware

It’s a small world after all

There is just one moon

And one golden sun

And a smile means

Friendship to ev’ryone

Though the mountains divide

And the oceans are wide

It’s a small world after all

It’s a small world after all

It’s a small world after all

It’s a small world after all

It’s a small, small world
